Thursday, July 5th was one of the best days of my life. We took a field trip to world famous Proudo Museum. The art history professor was in my group so it made for a very interesting trip. The area around the museum was more ¨European´´ to me. It had all of the fountains and fancy buildings. The metro of Madrid is very clean and colourful.
Thursday night was the first night here that I had nothing to wake up for the next day. I was starting to miss my family. I wanted to call home. I had to find a tobacco shop to buy an international phone card. I overheard some English speakers asked them to kindly point me in the direction of one. I got to talking to them and found out that they were from New Zealand. I asked them what brought them to Madrid, and they that they were just here for the party. A couple of girls from GPC and I went for some Cold ones at McDonalds, Pulp Fiction did not lie to me: you can get beer at McDonalds here. I ate dinner at my Madrid residence them met up with some guys from Georgia South western and some guys from good ole GCSU. We took the metro to el Sol, that’s kind of the Buckhead or Virginia Highlands of Madrid, and tried to go to a club there. They did not allow sandals or shorts in the club. It is the hot Spanish summer, so we were all in shorts and sandals. A man offered to lead us to a different bar in el Sol. We made references to Hostel as he led us down the narrow streets pass a guy passing out prostitute advertisements. The bar was obviously not as nice as the place we were barred from, but it was fun as hell. The bouncer gave coupons for a free drink to an Emory student and me. We ordered bourbon and cokes and knew that we stuck out like sour thumbs as Americans. Being a bartender in Spain is easy. She poured some Jack Daniels on some rock and handed us glass bottles of coke. An under 21 soccer match between the US and Columbia was on TV in the bar. When an American played received a yellow card we all yelled in outrange. The music was mostly techno with modern American rap and oldies mixed in. They played the songs from Grease in Spanish and Bon Jovi songs in English. They also played that techno song that the fat kid dances and lipsinks to on the internet.
